Services

At Woodhouse Academy, our services are designed to support the whole student through an integrated model of academics and therapeutic care. As a Connecticut State Approved Special Education and therapeutic day school serving grades 6–12, we provide individualized programming that balances rigor, flexibility, and emotional support.

By combining strong academic instruction with embedded therapeutic services, we help students build essential skills, regain confidence in learning, and make meaningful progress toward their personal and educational goals.

Academics

Rigor, Flexibility, and Support

Woodhouse Academy’s academic program challenges students while honoring their individual learning styles, pace, and needs. Guided by the Understanding by Design (UBD) framework, instruction emphasizes deep, conceptual understanding across core subjects and electives.

With small class sizes, differentiated instruction, and a wide range of course offerings, students are supported in developing critical thinking, creativity, executive functioning, and real-world readiness. Extended School Year options and transition skills programming further reinforce learning and prepare students for life beyond the classroom.

Therapeutic Services

Integrated Support Throughout the Day

Therapeutic services at Woodhouse Academy are seamlessly woven into the school day to support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral growth. Led by a certified school social worker and supported by a consulting supervisor, our therapeutic program emphasizes collaboration, consistency, and skill-building.

Through small-group counseling, a non-punitive Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) approach, and a strong sense of school community, students learn strategies for emotional regulation, self-advocacy, and executive functioning. We also provide specialized support for students experiencing school avoidance, helping them re-engage in learning and rebuild confidence.
